You can equip up to 2 pets simultaneously if you purchase a Pet Slot Extender from the cash shop. Only the attributed of the pet in the equipped slot will benefit your character. Both pets will gain pet experience. Leveling edit edit source Pets begin at level 1. As you attack monsters in the game you accrue Pet EXP. Any pets you have equipped will gain the pet experience and level up.
Upgrade Skill are not skills which help you to upgrade in-game items, as it could be understood. But they are passive skills which upgrade you. Upgrade Skills can be bought from Officers (BI, DS, GD) in form of yellow Skill Book. You can improve these basic stats with them: HP, MP, Attack Rate Defense Rate, Attack, Magic Attack and Defense. Some skills are available only from higher Skill Ranks. These are Skill Rank requirements for all Upgrade Skills:Novice: Vitality Mastery, Mana Mastery
Apprentice: Reflex, Sharp Eyes
Regular: Offensive Sense, Defensive Sense, Force Control
Grand Master: Eyes of Mind, Sixth Sense, Ruling Force, Impact Control, Damage Absorb
You can buy skill book even if you don't have required Skill Rank, but you won't be able to equip it. To equip an Upgrade skill you need to have empty slot for Upgrade Skill. You have one empty Upgrade skill slot on the beggining. You will get HP Upgrade skill as a reward from early quest, so don't rush with filling it. You gain second slot when you reach Skill Rank Apprentice. After that you gain one empty slot every 2 attained Skill Ranks. So you will have available:
Novice - 1 Upgrade Skill Slot
Apprentice 2 Slots
Expert - 3 Slots
Master - 4 Slots
G. Master - 5 Slots
Transcender - 6 Slots
All Upgrade skills have levels. Levels doesn't match the Skill Rank, beacuse Upgrade Skills have different Skill Rank Requirements. Vitality Mastery is available from Novice Skill Rank, but Impact Control from Grand Master Skill Rank. That's why Vitality Mastery has 10 lvls and Impact Control only 3 lvls. On the picture on left you can see what has my Force Blader. Also you need to equip upgrade skills of the same type gradually, you cannot equip Upgrade skill lv. 2 when you don't have lv. 1 equipped. Only when you have previous level and required skill rank, you can equip the upgrade skill. Here list of prices of Upgrade Skills, they are the same for all Upgrade Skills on Skill Rank:
Skill Rank | Price |
Novice | 3 000 |
Apprentice | 7 800 |
Regular | 74 250 |
Expert | 312 500 |
A. Expert | 502 900 |
Master | 1 747 500 |
A. Master | 2 323 200 |
G. Master | 3 639 700 |
Completer | 3 714 500 |
Transcender | 3 714 500 |
So, which upgrades should I choose?
Some are really easy to decide, but a word of advice is never bad. What is a 'must have' for all characters is HP. You will get this upgrade as a reward from quest on level 5. So don't hurry up with filling your slot when you start playing with new character. Other Upgrade skill are decided on what needs your character or what you prefer. I don't recommend MP and Attack Rate, so i will not mention these anymore (I don't recommend having Attack Rate because you can use Combo and then you always hit with 100% probability). Now you need to think a little bit in forward. When you reach Transcender Skill Rank, you will have 6 slots available for your character. What Upgrade skills we have left now? 2 Attack Skills, 2 Magic Attack Skills, 2 Defense Skills and 2 Defense Rate Skills. You will need both Attack or both Magic Attack Upgrade Skills equipped on your character. Attack is for: WA, BL, FB. Magic Attack is for WI, FA. FS can be built both ways, so choose according to your FS build. Now we have filled 3 slots of total 6 possible. We have 3 slots left and 4 Upgrade Skills. This means you will equip Damage Absorb and Sixth Sense (stronger versions of Defense and Defense Rate Upgrade Skills) and for your last slot you will have to decide what you prefer: Defense or Defense Rate. I would recommend to characters using Martial sets (WI, BL) to go for Defensive Sense (Defense increase). This way they can balance lack of Defense. Characters using Armor sets (WA,FS) to go for Refles (Defense Rate increase). They have enough defense and they can really benefit from boosting their defense rate. FA and FB can benefit from both, it's only yours to decide what you prefer:1, To be hit more often, but for less damage - then go for Defensive Sense
2, To be hit for more damage, but less often - then go for Reflex
Cabal 2 Download
3, You want to do mostly PvP - go for Defensive Sense (because it is wise to use Combo in PvP, and when your opponent is also using Combo, then it doesn't matter how much Defense Rate you have)'+10% per rank'?
This changes all values when you reach next Skill Rank. All BASIC VALUES are increased by 10% for every Skill Rank you gained. So if you are Transcender you have 90% bonus(which is maximum), because you ranked up 9 times. Basic Value is increasing with every level and also this % bonus is applied according to your current Skill Rank. You can see how it works very nicely on first three levels of Vitality Mastery. Basic Value is increasing by 30 with every level and in addition on Apprentice Rank you can see 10% added to basic value (70+7) and on Regular Rank you see 20% added (100+20). In Fact, Basic Values are visible only when you have Novice Skill Rank. When you rank up to Apprentice you can notice, that instead the value +40 HP you have now +44 HP, because the 10% was applied even to what you have already equipped. This is also applied to Upgrade Skill which are not available yet. You can check yourself, how the value of Impact Control (for example) is increasing as you make your way up the Skill Ranks and at the point where you are able to equip it (Grand Master) you will see the value which is already increased by 70%.List of all Upgrade Skills
Explanation of table:Skill Rank - Skill Rank when the current lv. of Upgrade skill is available to equip.

Pets should be well known to you from other games. They are your faithful companions which walk by your side all the time. They do not fight and they cannot be attacked, but they provide very useful constant bonuses to your character. If you are lucky and your pet has cool bonuses you can be much stronger. Pets gain experience as you play, after gaining enough experience they can level up and when they reach maximum level they get a special appearance.
Getting a pet
You can purchase them from Cabal Shop or from other players. They put pets into Auction House so its easiest to get one from there, when you don't want to spend your real money. When you search Cash Shop for pets, you can see that they are divided into three categories: Monster, Silver and Platinum pets. The difference is only in appearance (and price in Cabal Cash), they neither give better bonuses nor level up faster. So if you are thinking of buying a pet choose the one which appeals to you the most and the rest will come.Currently in Cash Shop you can find some pets. But in game you can see players walking with pets you are not able to buy now. They are older pets and they were available to buy some time ago. Just like my Garlie.
Equipping a pet
If you only have your pet in your inventory. it is not enough. You won't be able to see it next to your character and it will not give any bonuses even when it's trained. You need to equip that pet first. To do that open your inventory window, and at the top of the window you can see another tab 'Pet'. After you click it you will see slot for your pet. If you place pet into the slot it will appear next to your character and if it's already trained then you also get the bonuses from it. You can notice that there is also second place for pet. It allows you to have two pets at the same time, but you need Pet Slot Extender to unlock it. Each Pet Slot Extender will unlock it for 30 days. When you have two pets, both of them are gaining experience at the same time, but only bonuses from first pet are applied to your character. This way you can train more pets and use them for different situations. For example one pet will give you better bonuses for farming and the second one will increase your battle characteristics, you you place this one to first slot when you go dungeon or TG.Pet Slot Extender
How and what bonuses pets give?
When you buy your brand new pet, it is level 1 and have one empty slot. You can check it when you hover your mouse over pet. To be able to get any bonus from pet you need to train it (fill empty pet slot) at Core Alchemist. Training a pet is really simple, you can see it in video. You will need 1 FCHH and some Alz. Amount of Alz is varying with the level, but you always need only one FCHH. The upgrade you get is totally random and there is no way how you can influence what you get. Your pet will get one of 30 various bonuses listed in table below (i have created 4 categories - Best, Good, Fair, Rubbish, according to what I think about the bonus). You can get the same bonus more times. Some of them are really helpful and some of them are not useful that much. But be ready for it because unless you are totally lucky you will get even those worse. Pet will receive one empty slot for every level it gains. Maximum level for pets is 10. So at maximum level pet has 10 slots available. You don't have to fill them to continue gaining pet experience, but why would you leave them empty?Amount of alz required to train your pet:
Lv. 1-5: 1.000.000 Alz
Lv. 6-8: 2.000.000 Alz
Lv. 9: 3.000.000 Alz
Lv. 10: 4.000.000 Alz

My pet has totally bad bonuses. Should i buy a new one and start again?
You leveled your pet to level 5 and got only bonuses you would never want to see. You don't have to throw it away. You can use Pet Untraining Kit, which you see on the picture. It will empty all slots and you can train them all again. In this process you will not lose any slot, pet will keep level and experience. Available from Cabal Shop or other players who bought it. This way you can try for better bonuses. Apart from that, there is one more option: you are satisfied with your pet but you would still want something better... read further.
Try for better pet bonuses with Pet Safety Kit
Pet Safety Kit will allow you to transfer your current slots from pet to storage item called Anima Gem. This also empties slots in your pet, so you can try filling the slots. If you don't succeed getting something better, just use Pet Untraining Kit and try again or place slots from Anima Gem back to your pet. You can also transfer slots from Anima Gem to any other pet, which has sufficient level to store all slots from Anima Gem. It must not be lower level but can be higher level.
How can your pet gain experience (Pet EXP)?
- Your pet gains experience only when you use skills on monsters (maps & dungeons). It cannot gain experience from hitting players.
- Pet cannot gain experience when using normal attack.
- Pet cannot gain experience on training dummies.
- Pet gains experience only when you gain either EXP or Skill EXP (or both) for hitting mobs with skills. This means: even if you hit low level mob, from which you don't gain EXP anymore, you still gain Pet EXP (because you gained Skill EXP). Exception is when your character is full Transcender (in this case you don't gain Skill EXP anymore). Then you can only gain Pet EXP for hitting mobs which give you EXP.
- There is one exception in Tierra Gloriosa, where you gain Pet EXP for hitting other players, Legacy Guardians and also Force Towers & Sage ensign.
You will never see exact amount of Pet EXP gained. Only % of Pet EXP is showed. But from rate of increasing Pet EXP it is obvious that amount of Pet EXP gained depends on used skills (probably on skills duration but this will need to be confirmed). It doesn't depend on how much EXP you gained or how many mobs did you hit.
Leveling your pet takes some time and there is not much you can do. For fastest leveling of your pet go somewhere where you can constantly use your skills (or at least most of the time). When writing this article, I am lvl 161 and best place where I can gain Pet EXP is Big Spot at Mutant forest (where are Brannies and Ectoleafs), because I don't have to lure them and I just keep attacking as they come to me.
For further boost of Pet EXP you can use Pet EXP Rune to get up to 50% bonus, Premium service (25%) or Blessing Beads (100% - various duration).
